Dark Chocolate Nutella Frozen Bananas

I am bananas for nutella.

I don't know if I need to say more. I am bananas for it.

I am currently living in Austin, TX and it is hotter than the sun. Frozen bananas have rapidly become breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. Given my love of nutella and dark chocolate it's only natural to combine them and freeze it on a banana. Below is the recipe. It's ultra dark chocolatey with a hint of hazelnut. Perfect.  Go bananas over it.

Dark Chocolate Nutella Frozen Bananas

Ingredients (Makes 6 frozen bananas)

  • 3 large bananas, peeled and cut in half

  • 6 wooden popsicle sticks, skewers, or lollipop sticks

  • 2 tablespoons of nutella

  • 2 cups of dark chocolate chips

  • 1 teaspoon unsalted butter

  • OPTIONAL: Toppings (nuts, candy, cookies, sprinkles, espresso powder, pretzels)

Cut bananas in half and put stick firmly inside the banana. Line baking tray with parchment paper and put in the freezer for 30 minutes.

While bananas are freezing prepare chocolate and butter in a double boiler. (Tip: Make your own double boiler with a glass or metal bowl over a pot with 2 inches of water in it. Make sure the bowl doesn't touch the water and there is a good seal around the edges of the bowl and pot so that the steam from the water stays inside the pot.) Once the chocolate and the butter have melted together add the nutella. Dip frozen bananas into the mix or you can use a spoon to drip chocolate over the bananas. Here is where you would roll or sprinkle the banana with toppings (as you can see I am a purist). Place in the freezer for another 30 minutes. Once frozen store bananas in an airtight container. Eat and enjoy.
