Smarties Cookies

I've always preferred Smarties to m&m's. They don't hold a candle next to my favorite peanut butter m&m's but the regular Smarties win over plain chocolate m&m's any day in my book. I've always been about aesthetics and the color variety of Smarties are just plain appealing, and how the taste slightly mirrors the color, it's magic. I just adore them. In college when we'd take road trips to Canada I'd always find myself in the grocery store (let's be honest liquor store) walking up and down the candy counters collecting Smarties. Still today I have the same love of them and can't avoid picking them up when I see them in the store. If you can find them, I highly suggest trying out this colorful recipe!

Smarties Cookies

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1 tube Smarties


PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets and press 5 smarties into each cookie.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
