THE PROGRESS

Well, it's finally here, San Francisco's most anticipated restaurant opening of 2014. The Progress, by chef-owners Stuart Brizoa and Nicole Krasinksi (who are also the chef-owners of neighbor and sister restaurant, State Bird Provisions) opens tonight and we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak this weekend.

What: The Progress - Opening tonight!

When: Sunday - Thursday, 5:30pm - 10:00pm, Friday & Saturday, 5:30pm - 11:00pm

Where: 1525 Fillmore St.  

Bites: Like State Bird Provisions, The Progress' menu is unique. After arriving at the table we were offered a menu and a pencil. At the end of each dish on the menu there is a small box -- next comes the hard part, the entire table has to collaboratively decide on what they want. As the menu is family style, all plates are shared. We were told that the best way to decide wasn't to decide on the number of dishes we wanted (5, 8 or the entire menu), but to decide on which dishes we wanted and go from there. It should also be noted that the portion size is determined by total number of dishes orders, and of course the number of people in your party.

As it was two fat kids eating we wanted to order the entire menu, after much deliberation, we were thankfully able to control ourselves and only ordered 7, although we somehow ended up with 10, including one which wasn't on the menu. You can see what we ate below. 



Favorite Bites: Roasted mushrooms with pickled Mendocino nori & brussels sprouts, Spiced garlic squab lettuce cups and dessert. 



Drinks: 2013 Sparkling Chardonnay, Butch Cameron Vinyard, Russian River Valley, Lioco and a Manhattan, Brown Butter Bourbon, Vermouth and Bitters

Insider Tips: For now, The Progress is only taking reservations seven days in advance although they are taking walk-ins.
